China's First ChatGPT Fake News Arrest Made

Chinese police have arrested a man for allegedly using ChatGPT to create a fake news article about a train crash, in what appears to be the first case of enforcement action being taken in China under a new law related to artificial intelligence. The law governing "deep synthesis technologies" was introduced this year and states that deep synthesis services cannot be used to disseminate fake news. ChatGPT, created by U.S. firm OpenAI, is an example of a chatbot based on generative AI technology.
