Subsea communications cables in the Red Sea were cut, affecting a quarter of data traffic between Asia and Europe, with blame initially placed on Houthi rebels. However, German internet firm DE-CIX revealed that the damage was caused by an anchor from a ship attacked by the rebels. While most internet service providers have built networks to automatically reroute data flow in case of cable failure, some experts warn about the vulnerability of subsea infrastructure to terror attacks.
