Ukraine has accused Russia of using phosphorus munitions in the besieged city of Bakhmut, which is considered a war crime. The use of white phosphorus weapons creates fast-spreading fires that are difficult to put out and can cause severe injuries. Russia has been accused of using them before. Despite its questionable strategic value, Russia has been trying to capture Bakhmut for months. An offensive could take place in the Zaporizhzhia region, which is about 80% controlled by Russia.
