"Russian Regiment Bears Heavy Cost in Ukraine War"

The 331st Guards Parachute Regiment, also known as the Kostroma Airborne Regiment, has been at the forefront of Russia's campaign against Ukraine. Investigative work by BBC's Newsnight has revealed that the regiment has suffered heavy losses, with at least 94 soldiers confirmed dead and many more missing or seriously wounded. The loss of life has caused much comment in Kostroma, where the regiment is based, and has given the local authorities a difficult task of political management. The war has also exhausted Russia's professional army, with the call-up of conscripts to replace losses.
