"Escaping Gang Violence: Haiti's Capital in Crisis"

More than 53,000 people have fled Haiti's capital in less than three weeks to escape unrelenting gang violence, with over 60% heading to the rural southern region, straining resources and infrastructure. The exodus follows attacks by powerful gangs on government institutions, resulting in over 1,500 deaths and leaving 17,000 homeless. The violence has forced Prime Minister Ariel Henry to announce his resignation, and a transitional council is yet to be established. The mass migration is expected to continue, while some, like 29-year-old Gary Dorval, are determined to stay and be part of the change.
