Haiti is descending further into chaos as gang violence surges at an alarming rate, with criminal incidents more than doubling in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Over a dozen suspected gang members were lynched in Port-au-Prince by a mob on Monday, marking another level of escalation to the violence that has rocked the country for months. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for international forces to be dispatched to Haiti to restore order, warning that insecurity in Port-au-Prince "has reached levels comparable to countries in armed conflict."
