"Russian Police Detain Journalists at Moscow Protest by Soldiers' Wives"

Russian police detained around 20 journalists, including an AFP reporter, who were covering a protest in Moscow by the wives of men mobilized to fight in Ukraine. The women have been staging protests outside the Kremlin for weeks, demanding their partners be brought home from Ukraine. The movement, which has grown out of anger towards President Putin's mobilization decree, has so far gone unpunished despite the sensitive nature of the topic for the authorities. The protest is especially uncomfortable for the Kremlin ahead of the upcoming presidential election, and there were also several arrests of protest participants outside Putin's candidacy headquarters.
