Sudan War Displaces Nearly Eight Million: Crisis Escalates

Nearly eight million people have been displaced by a new round of war in Sudan, with over 100,000 crossing into Ethiopia since April 2023. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has called for urgent additional support to cope with the crisis, as the conflict has left nearly half of Sudan's 49 million people requiring aid. The violence, stemming from long-standing tensions between the military and paramilitary forces, has ravaged Khartoum and led to millions fleeing the city. Ethiopia, already hosting a large refugee and internally displaced population, is facing a chronic shortfall in needed funds to support the influx of Sudanese refugees.
