Survivors Report Dozens Dead in Mediterranean Migrant Voyage

Survivors rescued from a rubber dinghy in the central Mediterranean Sea reported that at least 60 people died during a week-long journey after their boat broke down, leaving them adrift without food or water. The survivors, mostly from Senegal, Mali, and The Gambia, were in very weak condition when rescued, with two unconscious individuals later dying. The International Organization for Migration expressed deep concern over the incident and called for urgent action to prevent further tragedies on one of the world's most dangerous sea migration routes. Italy and other EU governments are working to reduce the number of migrants crossing from North Africa, with 5,968 arrivals by sea so far this year.
