The Reluctance of Jordan and Egypt to Accept Gaza's Palestinian Refugees

Jordan and Egypt have stated that they will not accept Palestinian refugees from Gaza, citing economic and security concerns, as well as not wanting to be seen as complicit in the displacement of Palestinians. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has raised humanitarian concerns about the fate of Palestinians in Gaza, but neighboring Arab nations are reluctant to provide refuge. The concentration of Palestinians in southern Gaza near the closed Rafah border crossing into Egypt could lead to an influx of refugees, while an escalation in the conflict could prompt Palestinians to move eastward toward Jordan. Both countries already have significant refugee populations and are wary of taking on more.
