
Portland Benson High incident: teen’s chemical spill prompts evacuation; student expected to survive
A 15-year-old student at Benson Polytechnic High School inhaled a toxic chemical mixture he brought from home and spilled it in the cafeteria, prompting an evacuation. The student was treated on scene and hospitalized in critical condition but is expected to survive. About 200 students and staff were evaluated, and investigators are examining intent and preventing further harm; there is no ongoing threat to the school. Classes were canceled for Tuesday and Wednesday, with a return planned for Thursday.
