BMW iX5 signaling a new era for fast SUV EVs with 435-mile range and 460 kW charging
BMW unveiled the 2027 iX5, a U.S.-built, flagship SUV that uses a 144 kWh usable battery for an estimated 435 miles of range and peak charging of 460 kW (10-80% in about 22 minutes; 170 miles added in 10 minutes). It employs Gen6 800-volt architecture with 120 mm cells and a cell-to-pack design, plus Neue Klasse tech like Panoramic Vision and an Android-based OS with Alexa. Production is in Spartanburg, SC, pricing starts around $81,250, and it will compete with Rivian, Porsche, and Mercedes in the fast-charging SUV segment, with a hydrogen variant planned later.
