Kate Douglass stunned the TYR Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis by breaking the 50m freestyle world record with a 23.59, becoming the first American woman to hold the 50 free WR in 40 years and surpassing Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom. Teammate Gretchen Walsh also set an American record in the same race, while Douglass’s remarkable versatility—Olympic champion in the 200 breast and a world‑record holder in medley relay—continues to redefine what she can achieve. The record may complicate her Pan-Pacific Championships schedule, as the 50 free, 200 IM and 200 breast are all on the same day.
