Porsche Panamericana’s Practical Wheel Arches Enabled Quick Tire Swaps
The Panamericana concept’s dramatic wheel arches were designed for practicality: they allowed quick swapping of wheels and tires and rapid suspension changes for tarmac versus off-road, inspired by the Carrera Panamericana race. Built on a 964 Carrera 4 chassis with a carbon-fiber body and a 250-hp flat-6 AWD, it remains in Porsche’s museum; modern interpretations like the 911 Dakar echo its off-road spirit at a lower cost.
