Police forces in the UK have warned that the Emergency SOS feature on some Android phones is causing a surge in inadvertent "silent" 999 calls, which is part of the reason for record numbers of 999 calls. The feature calls when a side button is pressed repeatedly. Google, which develops the most widely used Android phone software, says it expects manufacturers to issue updates to address the problem. Users can disable the feature in their phone settings.
