Dartmouth's Innovative Approach: Fostering Jewish-Muslim Dialogue Amid Israel-Hamas Tensions
Dartmouth College in New Hampshire has taken a unique approach to easing tensions among Jewish, Muslim, pro-Israeli, and pro-Palestinian students on campus following the recent Israel-Gaza conflict. The college organized forums led by professors from Jewish and Middle Eastern studies programs to encourage dialogue and understanding. The discussions aimed to present the complex history of the region from an academic perspective, emphasizing the importance of condemning actions while also seeking to understand them. The forums were well-attended, with hundreds of students participating both in person and via livestream. Despite some ongoing concerns, students credit the college's focus on academics and professor-led discussions for creating a safer environment on campus. Other universities have reached out to Dartmouth to learn from their approach.
