Legacy HBO Max ad-free subscribers will soon lose access to 4K streams, as the streaming service plans to remove this feature for those subscribers.

HBO Max's rebranding as Max in May promised existing ad-free subscribers certain perks, including 4K streaming, for at least six months. However, starting from December 5th, legacy customers will lose 4K streaming and HDR capabilities, and their concurrent stream limit will be reduced from three to two. To retain 4K playback, subscribers will need to upgrade to the "ultimate" plan, costing $19.99 per month. Downloads remain unaffected. Max's ad-supported tier costs $9.99 and offers two simultaneous streams and HD quality.
