"Space Force Requests Over $300 Million for Target Tracking and Responsive Space Operations"

The Space Force is requesting $243 million in FY24 and over $1.2 billion through FY28 to fund the development of satellite payloads for the Long Range Kill Chains program, which aims to detect and track moving targets on the ground. The program will replace part of the mission previously performed by the Air Force's E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System aircraft. The program includes the development of a ground moving target indicator (GMTI) sensor and auxiliary payloads with the National Reconnaissance Office. The space-based GMTI system will provide actionable information on adversary surface targets to the warfighter through the Advanced Battle Management System as part of the Joint All-Domain Command and Control concept.
