US-Kuwaiti journalist Ahmed Shihab-Eldin was acquitted of all charges by a Kuwaiti court after about 52 days in detention; the Committee to Protect Journalists welcomed the ruling and said it will continue to monitor his safety. Shihab-Eldin, an award-winning reporter for The New York Times, PBS, and Al Jazeera English, was arrested on March 3 while visiting family and had not posted online since March 2, with the acquittal announced on April 23, 2026.
