Berkeley, Pelosi Launch Institute Aiming to Fortify American Democracy
UC Berkeley and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are launching the Nancy Pelosi Institute for Representative Democracy in January 2027 as a nonpartisan hub for research, teaching and civic engagement to tackle polarization, AI’s role in governance, and other democracy challenges, with Pelosi co-teaching a Congress course and the institute housing centers and fellowships supported by more than $35 million toward a $50 million endowment.
