The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded right-handed pitcher Robert Stephenson to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for infield prospect Alika Williams. Stephenson had a 5.14 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 18 relief appearances for the Pirates this season. Williams, who is 24 years old, will join the Pirates' Triple-A team in Indianapolis after playing Double-A ball in the Rays organization.

Williams, a first-round pick in 2020, can play shortstop and second base and is known for his defensive skills. The Pirates also recalled infielder Mark Mathias from Triple-A Indianapolis and assigned Williams to Indy.
