Dawn Staley's Vintage HBCU Jersey Steals the Show at March Madness.
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley wore a Cheyney University jersey during the Gamecocks' second-round NCAA women's tournament win over South Florida, paying tribute to the nation's oldest HBCU, located just over 30 miles west of Staley’s hometown of Philadelphia. Cheyney is still the only HBCU to reach the women’s or men’s Final Four, let alone the title game. The gesture meant a lot to current Cheyney players and coaches, too, as the athletic department has endured financial difficulties and program suspensions.
