LA Schools Chief Quits Amid FBI Probe Tied to AI Chatbot Deal
Los Angeles Unified School District superintendent Alberto Carvalho has resigned after an FBI search connected to a deal with AI chatbot maker AllHere; he had been on paid leave for months and will be replaced temporarily by acting superintendent Andrés Chait, who will remain in place until a permanent decision is made. The FBI also searched a Florida property tied to Debra Kerr, a former AllHere associate; AllHere later collapsed into bankruptcy and founder Joanna Smith-Griffin was charged with securities and wire fraud and identity theft. LAUSD officials said they cooperated with investigators and emphasized continuity and focus on student progress as the district moves forward.
