CSF DDC biomarker sharpens PD and Lewy body dementia diagnosis
An international study identifies cerebrospinal fluid DOPA decarboxylase as a highly specific biomarker for Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia, with CSF levels up to 2.5× higher than controls and the ability to distinguish these conditions from Alzheimer’s. Two sensitive immunoassays support strong diagnostic accuracy, and higher biomarker levels correlate with brain pathology, though standardization is needed before routine clinical use.
