
Saint Ambrose Barlow's Skull: A 17th-Century Martyr's Relic in Wardley Hall
The skull of Saint Ambrose Barlow, martyred in 1641 during anti-Catholic crackdown in Greater Manchester, was later identified and placed in Wardley Hall as a sacred relic; discovered during 1745 renovations, canonised in 1970, it is kept in a locked cabinet and viewable by appointment as part of BBC's Hidden Manchester.
