Judge Rules in Favor of Netflix in 'Making a Murderer' Defamation Lawsuit
A defamation lawsuit filed by retired police officer Andrew Colborn against Netflix and the makers of "Making a Murderer" has been dismissed by a federal judge. Colborn claimed that the docuseries falsely accused him of planting evidence. The judge ruled that Colborn had failed to show that the filmmakers had acted with "actual malice" in their portrayal of him. The judge also defended the First Amendment right to negative portrayals, stating that "if media could portray us only at our best, we would be a country of antiseptic caricatures, and less intelligent for it."
