Connecticut Man Gets 5 Years for Attacking Muslim Lawmaker
Andrey Desmond was sentenced to five years in prison for attacking Muslim state representative Maryam Khan outside a prayer service in Connecticut. Desmond, who has a history of mental illness, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault and other charges. Khan, who sustained injuries, highlighted gaps in mental health care and victim protection. Desmond will also serve parole, register as a sex offender, and receive mental health treatment.
