US Congress investigates Sony's alleged anti-competitive tactics in Japan's gaming market.

US Congress members have raised concerns about Sony's "monopoly" on the gaming market in Japan, alleging "blatant anti-competitive conduct" through exclusive deals and payments to game publishers. Two letters from lawmakers have been sent to the US Trade Representative and commerce secretary in response to these claims. US Senator Criticizes Sony's Dominance in Japanese Gaming Market

US Senator Maria Cantwell claims that Sony controls a "monopoly of 98% of the high-end game market" in Japan and has engaged in "blatant anti-competitive conduct through exclusive deals and payments to game publishers." While the accuracy of these claims is uncertain, they could potentially impact Microsoft's pursuit of Activision Blizzard and its efforts to expand its gaming division to compete with Sony in Japan. The US regulator is scheduled to present its findings on the ActiBlizz deal on August 2nd, 2023.
