The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has defended its decision to block Microsoft's $68.7bn acquisition of Activision Blizzard before the UK's Business and Trade Committee. The CMA's chair and chief executive said that approving the deal would be "turning a blind eye to anti-competitive mergers." The CMA blocked the deal over concerns that it would alter the future of the fast-growing cloud gaming market. The European Commission approved the deal, but the CMA refused Microsoft's proposition to protect the cloud gaming market.
