Amnesty: Child Detainees in Iran Subjected to Brutal Torture and Abuse
Iranian security officials have tortured minors arrested during anti-regime demonstrations, according to a report by Amnesty International. Some minors subjected to violence were as young as 12 years old. The security forces used extreme measures to intimidate, including beatings, electric shocks, and rape. The conditions in which the children and youth were held captive were also inhumane, with limited access to food, water, and toilets, as well as overcrowding, prolonged solitary confinement, and exposure to extreme cold conditions. Amnesty International urged the release of the imprisoned children and for international action against the Iranian authorities responsible for the violence.
