Army halts Apache training after fatal Fort Hood crash
The U.S. Army temporarily suspended AH-64 Apache training flights after a crash near Fort Hood, Texas killed two soldiers. Investigators from the Army Combat Readiness Center will lead the root-cause probe, and the stand-down will remain in effect until the cause is understood. The two servicemembers were Chief Warrant Officer 2 Deontre Huey, 34, and Warrant Officer Seth Olmstead, 25, of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood. Apaches are expected to continue flying in the future after upgrades, with service slated through 2050.
