"Google Unveils Arm-based AI Chip for Data Center Acceleration"
Google has introduced its new custom-designed artificial intelligence semiconductor, the Google Axiom Processors, which are the company's first central processing units developed using chip architect Arm Holdings. These processors are designed to operate data centers and are said to outperform x86 chips and general-purpose Arm chips in terms of performance and energy efficiency. Google plans to make the Axiom Processors available to its cloud customers later this year, expanding their use beyond internal services like YouTube Ads in Google Cloud. This move puts Google in competition with other cloud operators like Amazon and Microsoft, who have also built Arm CPUs as a way of differentiating their computing services.
