New York's gun buyback program, organized by the state's attorney general, Letitia James, saw over 3,000 guns, including assault-style rifles and "ghost guns," surrendered in exchange for gift cards. Participants who surrendered assault-style rifles and "ghost guns" were given $500 gift cards, while those who turned in handguns received $500 for the first weapon and an additional $150 for each additional handgun surrendered. The program was held across nine locations in the state, with 751 firearms relinquished by residents in Syracuse alone.
