Minneapolis City Attorney Departure Sparks MPD Restructuring and Leadership Changes
Sara Lathrop, the assistant city attorney responsible for implementing an agreement to reform Minneapolis' troubled police department, is leaving her position. Lathrop oversaw the settlement agreement with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and a forthcoming consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice. Both departments found evidence of discriminatory policing within the police department. Lathrop had previously raised concerns about the state's findings and delayed negotiations on the consent decree. The reasons for her departure are unknown.
