Chicago's largest law firms have experienced a dip in local attorney headcounts, with an average decrease of 0.2% from June 2022 to June 2023. Some firms, such as Polsinelli, Seyfarth Shaw, and Baker McKenzie, reported significant drops of up to 17.4%. Even the top three firms in Chicago, Kirkland & Ellis, Sidley Austin, and Mayer Brown, saw decreasing local attorney figures. However, there were some firms that saw growth in local attorney headcounts, such as Hinshaw & Culbertson and Latham & Watkins. Additionally, associate base salaries have increased across most firms, with a rise of 13% since 2021.
