Florida Athletic Association Penalizes Broward High for Allowing Transgender Athlete on Girls' Team
Monarch High School in Florida has been fined $16,500 and placed on probation by the Florida High School Athletic Association for allowing a transgender female student to play on the varsity volleyball team. The association has also banned the student from playing on any member team in the state until November 20, 2024. The school's principal and several officials have been reassigned or suspended during an investigation. The student's participation is said to violate a state law passed in 2021 that prohibits students born male from participating in girls' sports.
