Microsoft researchers were impressed by the clever response of ChatGPT's GPT-4 to a basic balancing task involving a book, nine eggs, a laptop, a bottle, and a nail. The response showed an understanding of the physical world and convinced the researchers that the technology is making progress towards artificial general intelligence (AGI). However, the study notes that GPT-4 only shows "sparks" of AGI and is not perfect at what it does.
