Fatal Plane Crash Near Orangeburg Municipal Airport.
A single-engine Beech BE-35 crashed in a field 11 miles north of Orangeburg Municipal Airport, killing the pilot who reported engine failure and declared an emergency. The aircraft was destroyed by post-accident fire. The plane took off from Lowcountry Regional Airport in Walterboro and was headed to Jim Hamilton – LB Owens Airport in Columbia. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the incident, and a preliminary report is expected in two to three weeks.
