China's August EV Surge: Nine of Ten Top Sellers Are BEVs, Gas Cars Vanish
Electric vehicles dominated China’s August passenger-car rankings, occupying nine and a half of the top 10 with no gasoline models in the list; Geely EX2 led with 39,651 units, and the mixed BEV/PHEV Fang Cheng Bao Ti7 was 55% BEV. The first ICE in the broader rankings appeared at 13th (Toyota Corolla), marking a second month this year without any ICE in the top 10. The August top 10 consisted of Geely EX2, Leapmotor A10, Tesla Model Y, Ti7, BYD Atto 2, Tesla Model 3, Changan Nevo Q05, Li Auto i6, BYD Dolphin, and Xiaomi SU7, while BYD added five models to the top 20 overall. Year-to-date leaders remain Geely EX2, Tesla Model Y, and Li Auto i6.
