Colombian Father Killed During Maine ICE Operation Sparks Debate
Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a 26-year-old Colombian immigrant and father living in Biddeford, Maine, was killed Monday when an ICE officer fired as Durán’s car allegedly attempted to flee a targeted enforcement operation; ICE says the stop was necessary for public safety and Durán was not the intended subject, while witnesses describe a traumatic scene and Durán’s partner and young daughter at home. The officer has been placed on leave and investigators from DHS/ICE and Maine authorities are reviewing the case; none of the involved ICE personnel were wearing body cameras.
