EU vows fixes to biometric border checks to beat summer airport delays
The European Commission plans urgent talks with member states to fix backlogs caused by the Entry/Exit System (EES), which uses fingerprints and photos for non-EU travelers. While the system works well in many places, some airports face long queues due to staffing and infrastructure gaps, prompting calls for fixes. The Commission will assist governments to accelerate processing and tighten implementation as travel peaks, noting that 43,728 people have been stopped for rule violations since October 2025.
