Texas Implements New Laws to Hold Drunk Drivers Accountable and Support Victims' Families
A new Texas law, Bipartisan House Bill 393, requires drunken drivers who kill parents or guardians to pay child support to the victims' children until they turn 18 or graduate from high school. The court will determine the monthly payment based on various factors, and the payments will be made to a surviving parent or guardian, or the Department of Family and Protective Services if the child is placed in their care. The law applies to incidents committed on or after its enactment.
