Padres shake up catching depth, designate Blake Hunt
San Diego designated catcher Blake Hunt for assignment to clear a 40-man spot after reinstating Nick Pivetta and optioning Jhony Brito. Hunt, who appeared in two MLB games with three strikeouts in three plate appearances, was moved as the Padres already have Salas up and three catchers on the MLB roster. He has strong minor-league numbers and a solid defensive reputation, and while he’s optionable for the rest of the season, he’ll be out of options in 2027, making him a candidate to clear waivers with potential interest from other teams.
