Twin Blida blasts shadow Pope Leo XIV's Algeria visit
Two suicide bombers blew themselves up in Blida, near Algiers, as Pope Leo XIV began his historic visit to Algeria, with authorities saying no link to the papal visit has been established and security was tight. Video footage showed two bodies in the street; the African Union briefly condemned the attack before retracting it. Attacks of this kind are rare in Algeria, the last suicide attack recorded in 2020.
