Bob Horner, the Atlanta Braves' slugging star and the 1978 National League Rookie of the Year who jumped straight to the majors, has died at 68. Horner burst onto the scene with 23 homers in 89 games in his rookie campaign, earned NL ROY honors, and later made the 1982 NL All-Star team. He hit four home runs in a game in 1986, was part of the Braves' feared power duo with Dale Murphy, and after MLB collusion-era salary suppression he played in Japan and briefly for the Cardinals before retiring in 1989 due to injuries. The Braves issued a statement of condolence.
