Bob Horner, Braves star who skipped the minors, dies at 68
Bob Horner, the Atlanta Braves’ Hall of Fame-caliber third baseman who became the first MLB player to jump directly from college to the majors, has died at 68. A 1978 NL Rookie of the Year and 1982 All-Star, Horner also became the Braves’ first four-home-run game performer. He later played for the Yakult Swallows in Japan and the St. Louis Cardinals, and was inducted into the Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame (1979), the College Baseball Hall of Fame (2006), and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame (2022). He is survived by his wife, Chris, and their two sons; the cause of death has not been disclosed.
