Podcast hosts Finger and Weber publish book analyzing the blurred lines of modern celebrity
Pop culture journalists Bobby Finger and Lindsey Weber, hosts of the podcast 'Who? Weekly,' have released their first book, 'I Want to Be Famous: When Everybody and Nobody Is a Celebrity.' Published by Crown, the book examines the historical evolution of fame and how social media has eroded the traditional distinction between elite celebrities and influencers. The authors argue that while the binary between 'Thems' (established stars) and 'Whos' (aspiring or niche figures) is dissolving, the public’s desire for authenticity remains constant. The release coincides with the tenth anniversary of their podcast, which began as a newsletter in 2016. The book also critiques the decline of independent entertainment journalism, noting that celebrities now control their own narratives through social media and self-hosted content, reducing the role of traditional press.
