Micron Chief Signals AI-Driven Memory Boom and Big U.S. Buildout
Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said AI is reshaping the memory market as demand for higher-capacity, faster memory grows, with data-center customers seeking roughly 50% more memory than Micron can currently commit to. He pointed to AI, autonomous vehicles, robotics, and AI-enabled consumer products as catalysts. The company is expanding its U.S. footprint with a Boise, Idaho research center and has outlined more than $250 billion in planned U.S. manufacturing and research spending over the next decade, including a planned $10 billion investment at the new facility. Micron shares rose about 4% on the outlook, as AI-driven memory demand supports revenue growth amid already elevated expectations.
