Kemp to assess Georgia wildfires as two major blazes burn tens of thousands of acres
Gov. Brian Kemp is set to survey the Brantley County wildfire as Georgia’s southern blazes threaten tens of thousands of acres; the Pineland Road Fire in Clinch County has grown to about 29,606 acres (roughly 10% contained) and the Highway 82 Fire in Brantley County has burned over 4,400 acres (about 15% contained). Thirty-four new wildfires sparked about 75 acres statewide, with dry, windy conditions and drought hampering containment. Evacuations remain in place, 91 counties are under burn bans, a state of emergency is in effect, and smoke has drifted toward Atlanta. Road closures persist and residents are urged to follow orders and avoid drone activity near fires.
