"Man Jailed for Destroying Ancient Welsh Stone Art"
A Welsh man, Julian Baker, has been fined $5,500 and sentenced to four months in prison for excavating and destroying a 4,500 year-old Bronze Age stone relic. Baker filmed himself defacing the artifact, which featured "cup marks," and uploaded the video to Facebook. The cultural preservation wing of the Welsh government expressed outrage, stating that significant archaeological information has been lost forever. The stone, located in South Wales, was being studied and its destruction caused irreparable damage. This is the first prosecution of its kind under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979.
