Trump Ally Todd Blanche Wins Senate Confirmation as Attorney General
Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal lawyer and acting attorney general since April, was narrowly confirmed as US attorney general in a 50-49 Senate vote after Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski opposed him. The confirmation followed concerns about his handling of Epstein-related documents and a proposed $1.8 billion anti-weaponisation fund he later walked back amid GOP criticism. Senator Bill Cassidy cast the deciding vote, saying Blanche was the best option under the circumstances, while Collins and Murkowski warned about politicisation of the DOJ. Blanche now leads the Justice Department with scrutiny over past actions and future independence.
